Ex BR Diesel Locomotives
McLaren Rail is proud to own and preserve an expanding fleet of former British Rail diesel locomotives, ensuring these iconic machines remain operational for enthusiasts and future generations.
In 2025, McLaren Rail purchased Class 47 367 from the Stratford 47 Group and Class 47 402 from the Waterman Heritage Trust for operation on the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway in Oxfordshire. The fleet has since grown with the acquisition of Class 31 203 and Class 37 216 from the late Les Emery, strengthening our commitment to preserving Britain's diesel railway heritage.
Today, these locomotives are being restored, maintained and operated in partnership with heritage railways, allowing visitors to experience authentic British Rail diesel traction through our Driver Experience Days and special events. As the McLaren Rail fleet continues to grow, so too does our ambition to preserve and operate these remarkable locomotives for generations to come.
